SQL Server Agent is very helpful in Scheduling and automating tasks on SQL Server.
Agent Jobs can be both for Database maintenance tasks like backups, restores etc… or Enterprise related tasks like creating a Finance reporting table from a set of queries from Live database etc…
SQL Agent service is disabled by default in SQL Server Express which is the free edition of SQL Server.
